Island of Lost Souls
THE MOVIE
Island of Lost Souls can best be described as an 'inner road' movie.

It's a forty minute experimental film, an extended videoclip, music by Jörgen Sonck & Kika Da Silva, Dez Mona, Daan, Capital Scum,Jason Rawhead,  Missmoses,Monolith, Neon Electronics, Vive La Fête, Buscemi & Dive.

During the entire film you will be spellbound by the sheer cutting words, images and music you are being exposed to.

Every emotion you have ever felt, whether it be painful or happy will engulf your being, the raw honesty swishing through your veins and leaving your heart beating with great vigor. It is truly an awakening to certain old school thinking and it captures the essence of life so very intensely.

Kika Da Silva:
Born again in "Island of Lost Souls"

The clouds give way under the strength of a Sun which seems determined to look down from its privileged heights on a mystical and inspiring Es Vedrá. The rays of the triumphant Sun pierce the marine depths, beaming warmth and new life in ‘Island of the Souls’.

Kika Da Silva & Jörgen Sonck describe the moments of calm and tranquillity in which “we feel protected” to introduce this visual project ‘Island of Lost Souls’, an extended videoclip which aims to tell some “story that came knocking at the door” of this Belgian artist Kika. A story of disappointment in Love, Love itself, Revenge, Opportunity and Friendship through a connection between the Island of Ibiza and the music of her native land, unleashed in an absolute externalisation of her emotions.

Da Silva cannot help but be fascinated by other people and their lives and she is a self confessed enthusiast for all those who have crossed her path. She renders homage to them in her latest project. It is her own elaborate demonstration of affection for everything she loves. Because Kika loves, and she loves a lot and that is reflected in the emphasis of her words. However, in order to love it is essential to take into account that “good times do not last forever” and to discover that “repression is refusing to listen to your own nature”.

With this vital basis it would be crazy to try to separate ‘Island of the Lost Souls’ from the story of her life, when in reality any creative project bears the most intimate stamp of its creator.

On this occasion the viewer easily identifies with the story, because is there anyone who has not suffered for Love...?

Frustration and anger, submission, deceit, long hours of waiting and finally an eye opening positive reaction, bringing an infinite number of new possibilities.

With the indisputable help of her best friend Jörgen Sonck, and the “stimulus and impact created by the Island of Ibiza”, Kika, as absolute central character, has managed to relate a story of thwarted love through a selection of twelve tracks composed by Belgians music artists, although at times they can appear to be an advertisement for Ibiza and its qualities. However, the ambassadorial spirit would achieve its apogee were it not for the incursion of elements which make the island what it is, as it is felt and experienced. Ibiza would not be the same without its beaches, without its Can Eivissencs, without its roads and paths, without its marine depths, without its port, without its vertiginous drag queens platforms…

Obviously the result would not be the same if Kika did not have that delightful mixture of flashy Punk which far removes her visual composition from any charge of cliché or stereotype. Nor would it be the same if everything in her life had been perfect: “That way the videoclip would be full of flowers”, she confirms. And obviously, ‘Island of the Lost Souls’ is far from having any lucrative porpoise: “I don’t want to make money out of this”. No, instead Da Silva & Jörgen Sonck are planning to use their last project as a “visiting card” with two simple and emphatic objectives, namely that “it will travel and be shown in as many cultural centres as possible” and of course, she concludes, “that people will like it”.
